Lingholm Sketch Book -diary entry
"I set off rowing before a summers dawn, across Derwentwater. A stillness of air brought little sound except for the oars gentle dip then drip. Distant geese were waking and higher than the gulls clouds showed a pinkish light towards Causey's craggy summit, layered above the truest mauves of Lingolm. There down by the end of the lake simularly a blue green shadow land of high crag and tumbled trees floated, its brightening tops kissed each in turn by the suns spreading rays until, I too, in crystal mirrored reflection sat and this small boat and I became a part of this day."
